DESIGN MILK
Founded by Jaime Derringer in 2006, Design Milk is an online magazine that offers information on the arts such as architecture, interior design, or fashion, as well as the latest technology. The challenge is to create a physical space for a virtual, non-physical company. The client expects their virtual background to inspire the design of a retail space --a Pop-up store and exhibition space-- and an office design.
As a company, Design Milk has their own definition of an office which is a place to connect and work in a flexible situation, where they can relax and hold events. The contributors of this online magazine are used to working and communicating virtually since they do not have physical a company. This virtual lifestyle indicates that there are no boundaries when they are working in time and space. With this in mind, the concept of the Design Milk retail and office design is Opacity which means giving different levels of transparency of material use throughout the space such as walls and floor. The transparent and reflecting material not only creates the depth of field in the space but also gives different levels of privacy.
