Developing future leaders and innovators will be the vision of Next University, School of Liberal Arts. The client emphasizes collaboration and interaction in learning method between faculty and students. Based on this view, the teaching method that is required in the space is an active and diverse experience for the group, individual, or traditional lectures. In this project, Next University will collaborate with Steelcase -- a cutting edge and well-known furniture company. Since this design is intended for a future educational institution, Steelcase wants to support this idea by giving inspiration from their modern furniture designs.
The interior design is inspired by the neuron in the human brain. A neuron is a specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses that is connected in the brain system. It has a job to transfer information to other cells. From this philosophy, Next University is expected to transfer information between the instructors, students, and public. This connection will represent their vision to enhance the collaboration and interaction between all different type of users. Besides that, the neuron itself has an organic shape that depicts the organic landscape in Norfolk. The organic shape is applied to the flow as well as the structural features such as columns.
